Cultural Adventures: Ramadan Edition
Part 4: Exceptions
We have a short episode today. I simply wanted to note that
not every single Muslim has to practice Ramadan. There are, naturally, a few
exceptions. Fasting is obligatory for adult Muslims, except for those who are ill,
travelling, pregnant, diabetic, or are having their lady-week. Children also
don't have to participate until they reach puberty, but often they fast for
parts of some days, or for one day on the weekend or something.

Sunday was pretty lazy, I'll admit. I slept until
noon:thirty for like the first time since being here. It wasn't so hot that the
sun woke me up this time. It was lovely.
Then I spent the day occasionally working on homework and
talking on Skype. But most importantly, on Sunday I took a shower. It'd had
been a while. Shower days are always good days.
On a side note: Unfortunately, every day since the beginning of Ramadan, and
the previous 7 days before that (save for 1 day), we've been eating soup. And you
know... I like the soup. I do. It's good. But... after 11 days straight of
almost the exact same soup, I'm over it. Y'know, I'm just over it. Technically,
the soups are different soups, but the way that Noura uses spices and such,
they all end up tasting the same in the end anyway. Sometimes they have more
teeny noodles in them. Sometimes they have more vegetable bits in them. Either
way, it's mostly liquid, the flavor of the soup itself is always so strong that
you can't taste whatever is in it anyway. It's all just mush at that point.
Soup and mush.

My night every night.

Soup again?! So sorry. Guess it'll be a looooong time after you get home before you eat another bowl of soup.
