Day 24: Windows to Another World

Monday, July 15

Nothing much happened on Monday. There were some weird power outages during class where all the lights went off for a time, but fortunately for us the main courtyard outside of our classroom doesn't have a roof, and our classroom just happens to have windows to the courtyard, so the light still managed to get in. (Because it always does, here. You can't keep it out).

One of the windows in our classroom.
Our classroom.

Then after class I had to sit down with my professor, and together we watched my presentation on my laptop that I gave about Robert Downey Jr. (It was obviously recorded). It's such a horrible feeling, watching yourself, hearing your own mistakes as you word vomit in front of the class.

Nothing else was particularly unique about that day. My roommate was sick again (she was ill last week), so she wasn't at school, and I was on my own for buying water and taxis. Which is fine. I don't really mind. Taxis have been easier to find during Ramadan, especially during the time of day right before Iftaar (breakfast), which is around 6-7pm, because almost everyone is home already at that point, but there are still taxis searching for those stragglers like me and most of the taxis are empty. But you have to make a point to leave by 7, because after that all the taxi drivers go home to eat too. So wherever you are from 7:30-9:30pm-ish, you're staying there unless you want to walk.

Then for dinner that night we had, you guessed it, soup.

"Yay."

  2. I WANT THAT WINDOW!!! OMG, it is so beautiful! So is the rest of the school from what I've seen in your pictures. I'm sure it is way prettier in person. Retain that humor concerning you situation with soup.
